This morning Brennan had his 4 month well baby visit. For the most part everything was ok.
He weighs 14 lbs. 3 oz (50%) and is 25 inches long (75%).
He got 2 shots and handled them really well! What a trooper! He has been sleeping a little more than usual today, but it's due to the shots.
The doctor sais that socially and developmentally he is doing wonderful! He was all smiles for the doctor today!
We have 2 small (but could become a bigger problem...) problems. I noticed (and brought up) and his 2 month appointment that he was turning his head to the right quite a bit and that the right side of his head looked a little flatter than the rest of his head. At that time, the doctor said is was a mild case of case of torticollis. Well, I've been trying to correct it for 2 months by turning his head to the left and holding it there for a minute or so during each diaper change...but it really hasn't seemed to help. In fact, I think it's gotten worse. It is obvious that he favors looking to the right, and because of it, the right side of his head has gotten even flatter...which is causing his forehead to bulge a little bit. The doctor agreed with my observation, and now says that he has moderate torticollis. He told us that we need to be much more diligent with stretching his head to the left and giving him much much more tummy time (he HATES tummy time). He also wants him sitting up more. He wants me to call him back in a month to month and a half to see if things are getting better (or worse :( ). If it doesn't seem to be improving, then he is going to send us to some kind of cranio-specialist to have him fitted for a helmet, which would help re-shape his head. Please keep him in your prayers. I don't want him to have the helmet for 2 reasons...1. he's my little baby, and I don't want anything to be wrong with him. 2. It's really expensive...doctor said about $3000. Granted, insurance would cover some (not all) of the expense, but we would still have to pay a hefty chunk.
Ok, sorry for the really long post, but I wanted to get it out there. We can use some prayers for all of you pray-ers! Thanks!

I am praying for Brennan! At least if it does get worse it is something that is correctable. I know how it feels as a mommy to have something "wrong" with your baby and I pray that it gets better. You should get a bumbo and bumbo tray for him to sit up in. That is the only way we can get Aly off of laying down. She has the same problem as Brennan.
ReplyDeleteack, I forgot to say some things. I can't believe how big he is! He is so much bigger than Aly is now. I miss him and hope we get to see him soon! I still love all of his hair and he seriously has the most gorgeous smile!
ReplyDeleteI've just started using the Bumbo the past couple of weeks. He doesn't really like it much...but we'll see.
ReplyDeleteAlyson didn't like it at first either but we just kept forcing her in it and now she really likes it!
ReplyDeleteKristen, I'll be praying for Brennan. My nephew's son had to wear a helmet, and I know it's not easy. Let's pray for correctable with out it.
ReplyDeleteHe is the cutest little thing!
Katie had this same problem as a baby as well. We actually did physical therapy with her to correct it. Shoot me an email if yout interested in knowing some of the things they had us do.

Also lisa may know some tips as I believe it was Robert, maybe William though, who had torticollis.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys!
