The Countdown Has Begun...

No, not until New Year's...

The countdown has begun for our trip to Denmark. It's exactly 1 week from today. We aren't packed yet, nor do I have any idea what I'm going to pack (I hear it's cold...I don't dress for the cold). Our plans haven't been finalized yet, and the house isn't clean yet (there is nothing worse than going on a trip, and coming home to a messy or dirty house). So we have lots to do before the trip, and I work the 2 days before we leave, so that pretty much leaves Monday for me to get everything done. Wish me luck!

I love my nanny so much!!! When comparing the two of us, I think that we have the same nose and cheeks. It's so wonderful to have such a special bond with your grandmother! This picture was taken at Frances' house on Christmas Eve. Posted by Picasa

Hall of Fashion

Hmmm, it's been a while since we have had a Hall of Fashion post. I'm thinking that we need one soon. Maybe tomorrow I'll take pictures of some of the newest items added to my wardrobe. I'm absolutely obsessed with clothing, but the funny thing is that I spend most of my time in scrubs!

Early Birthday Gift

Well, today Miguel bought and gave me my birthday gift. A little early, but in preparation for our trip to Denmark, Miguel gave me the camera that I have wanted for a while...the Canon Digital Rebel. Can you belive it? I finally have the REBEL!!! Yay! I have only had it open for about 30 minutes, but I have already taken over 50 pictures! I can't wait to learn how to use it!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all of my loyal blog readers! This Christmas was wonderful! We had such a good time at my mom's house. Frances, Megan, Bianca, Danny, Roman, and Karen came over for dinner. We had a traditional Christmas dinner, which was very good! We all ate until we were completely stuffed. We listened to more great Christmas music, and Miguel and I got tons of great gifts. I think that the only thing we were missing was the rest of the family...Joel, Valerie & Yasmin are still in Guam (enjoying a great Christmas with Val's family), and Courtney & Richie are in New York enjoying their first Christmas there. Pictures will soon be posted at smugmug. I feel so blessed to have such an awesome family that cares about each other. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays because it is when we get to put everything to the side and show our family how much they mean to us. Posted by Picasa

Merry Christmas Eve

So today was Christmas Eve. Our family always gets together to celebrate and open gifts. this year, the fun began at 5:30. We listened to salsa music, and christmas music, ate yummy food, and enjoyed the company of not only family, but Jenny & Emmett also. Felix made some coquito (which Miguel said was very good), and Frances made probably the best flan that I have had in a long time, and some awesome arroz con dulce. Yummy yummy yummy! Then we all opened gifts, and danced some more.
Tomorrow we will do it all over again at my moms house. It's so awesome that our parents are good friends, because we never have to split holidays. My mom and nanny were at Frances' house tonight, and Frances and Felix will be at my mom's house tomorrow along with the rest of the family. We had an awesome time, and this was probably one of the best Christmas Eve's in a long time! Very memorable. Pictures will be posted at smugmug soon. Posted by Picasa

Megan's 18th Birthday Party

Last night we went to Frances' house to celebrate Megan's 18th birthday. We had so much fun dancing salsa, singing happy birthday, and eating cake.
I remember when Meggy was just a little 4 year old girl, and all she would say was "mami, mami, mami, mami." What a beautiful young girl she has turned into.
Photos of the event are on my smugmug site. Posted by Picasa

We Just Couldn't Wait..

It seems that every year Miguel & I exchange gifts early. I was determined not to let that happen again this year. I was sticking to my guns about opening each other's gifts on Christmas morning. That was until I found out that I have to work Christmas morning. So I held out as long as I could, but gave in this evening. We lit up the Christmas tree, turned on all the Christmas lights, played some nice Christmas music, and exchanged gifts. I must say that Miguel did a very good job this year! Pictures of the event are posted on my smugmug site.

Now we are off to Megan's 18th birthday party!

A Day Off...

Today is my first day off after a 5 day stretch of working. I worked 56 hours this week, and I am tired! I was scheduled to work 60, but they let me come home a little early yesterday! Today I enjoyed just not being at work!

Your heart is...romantic! Your heart is all about
waiting for your true love. When you have your
true love you always want to be with them! You

What Kind of heart do you have?

Thanks For All Your Prayers

I just wanted to say thank you to all of my family & friends for your prayers and concern the other night. I should have known that the weather was going to be bad, and not to be out on the road in those conditions. I'm okay, praise God, and that is the most important thing. As for the car, so far it has approx. $875 worth of damage. It may be more once they get the car up on the lift. I'll be in a rental care until my car is repaired. I'm sorry that I scared everyone, but am very grateful for you concern. Thank you, and I am sorry.

Saves the Day was Awesome!!!

Last night Miguel, Danny & I went to see Saves the Day at the Granada Theatre. I was so excited to see them. Miguel & I have seen them about 4 times live now, the last time being in Long Island, NY about 4 years ago.
The first band to play was Emmanuel. Decent music, but (once again I'll say this) I didn't like the screaming.
Next up was The Early Novemver. I actually really liked them. There wasn't any screaming and the music was good. I think that I liked it enough to buy the album. I'll probably get it sometime soon. Miguel didn't really like them much. In fact, he hated them. Not sure why? I thought it seemed like his kind of music. They are from Jersey, and the music really reminded me of east coast music. Pretty catchy...that's why I liked it.
Next up was Saves the Day. I was a bit surprised about this. They were supposed to be the headlining band for the night, so when they appeared on stage 3rd, I was a bit disappointed. Now we weren't gonna get an encore. We have never seen them when they weren't headlining. We were thinking that things got changed up a bit because their label folded, and they didn't get their new album out, and they are looking for a new label now. Anyway, they played mostly old songs and like 2 or 3 new ones. The older of the old (my personal favorites) sounded kind of funny to me because Chris' voice has gotten higher in more recent albums. They actually played my all time favorite Rocks Tonic Juice Magic, and Miguel's favorite song Holly Hox Forget Me Nots. The crowd was so into them. The only annoying thing was that there was this like 15 year old girl standing behind us. We had an awesome spot. We went upstairs onto the balcony, and you could see the entire stage. Awesome view. Well, before Saves the Day came on, this girl asked Miguel if we (me, Miguel & Danny) would move so she can stand where we were. Miguel told her that we were gonna stand here, and that she could stand whereever she wanted. She started cursing at him and then backed off. So Saves the Day started and she was standing right behind Miguel and Danny. She was screaming at the top of her lungs in the highest pitch voice I have ever heard. Now I like to scream and sing during the show, but she was just ridiculous. So she would sing a little bit and then yell f*** yeah. It was piercing. After the Saves the Day set was over we decided to leave and not stay for the other band. Miguel walked away from our spot first, followed by Danny. Right as Danny was walking away the girl and her friend pushed into us and said "we need the be right the f*** here." Then the girl looked at me (who was only like 5'2"), and pushed me. I had had it by that point with her, so I pushed her back. She started yelling "what the f***." All I said back to her "I dare you to push me again." Let's just say that she didn't push me again. She really had some balls for purposely pushing me. I mean, yeah you get pushed and bumped into at shows, but she was obviously trying to start something. Then we left, and had a fun ride home.
At the end of the set, Saves the Day said that they will see us again in March, so hopefully they will be back in Dallas, and on a night that we can see them...again!!! Posted by Picasa

The Story Behind My Sprained Foot

So after shopping all day on Black Friday, Miguel & I finally made our way home. We had tons of bags to carry & a huge (and I mean HUGE) wreath. I decided to become Superwoman, and carry like 5 or 6 bags, and the wreath all at once. Somehow, the wreath must have gotten snagged on the iron hooks on the mirror that hangs in the hallway. By the time that I realized it, and took a step back, the mirror (which weighs approx. 25 pounds), was on its way down to the floor, and landed on my foot. Yay for pain. I dealed with the pain until Saturday afternoon when I finally decided to make a trip to the emergency room. We drove an hour to my hospital, where they told me that I had a bad sprain. They gave me a boot to wear, and a set of crutches. Crutches suck! Anyway, they gave me a few days off of work, and I am feeling much better now. I'll return to work on Thursday. Posted by Picasa

So Now For the Update...

Since I haven't updated in a while, I'll go ahead and do it now. So happy belated Thanksgiving everyone. My Thanksgiving was probably the worst one I've ever had. I worked. Who works on Thanksgiving? That's right...ME. So I worked from 11 AM until 7 PM. The day was long, and people were coming in for the dumbest things. After I got out I went to Frances' house where everyone was. We stayed for a little while, and then we went home. Had to get a good nights sleep for the day I had planned on Friday.
Friday morning Miguel & I woke up at 4:00 AM to be at Best Buy by 5:00 when they opened. Yes, I am one of those crazy people who go shopping at the crack of dawn on Black Friday. So we made it to Best Buy, got just about everything we wanted. We shopped all day..and I mean, all day!

Sweet, Sweet Miguel

Miguel took me out to dinner at my favorite restaurant on Saturday night. (In case anyone doesn't know, it's Sambuca). Anyway, it was really really nice. I just love the dim lighting and the music.

Then, today while I was at work, I got called to the nurses station. When I got there, I saw a vase with a dozen red roses in it. Miguel had sent me flowers to work. They are soo beautiful! That was the first time that he's ever sent them to work, and it really suprised me.

Thank you so much honey. They are beautiful, and I love you!

Harry Potter

Miguel, Nanny, & I went to see Harry Potter today. Let's just say that I was less than impressed. There was so much hype for this movie, and I expected it to be better than the other 3. They have been getting better & better, but this one...probably my least favorite of all. Totally not what I expected. Blah. Maybe I just need to see it again, but for right now...blah.

Picture of the Day

I think that this is my favorite picture of Yasmin. She looks so innocent here. This was taken on September 10 at Erland's 4th birthday party. I was just messing around taking pictures of her, and told her to look up at me & smile. I had already taken so many, that Yasmin didn't want anymore, so she gave me her half smile. Posted by Picasa

Thrice Concert

So I will start out by saying that the concert was good. This is the 3rd time that I've seen Thrice live, and it was a good concert. Not great, but good. Danny went with us, and Megan went with a friend.
The show was at the Granada on Greenville Avenue in Dallas, which is much closer than most of the other shows that we go to which are downtown...but we still got there late. Doors opened at 6:00, and we got there at about 6:45. I guess it didn't help that we stopped to eat, or that the parking lot to the venue was full, so we had to park like 4 blocks away, and walk.
By the time that we got in the doors, the 1st band was already halfway through their set. They were Veda. Pretty good...for having a girl in it. Not to go off on a tangent, but I really don't like too many bands that have girls in them. I'll leave it at that. Anyway, Miguel bought their album a few weeks ago, and it's okay. They were pretty good live too.
The next band up was The Bled. Hmmm, didn't really like them too much. I really don't remember much about them...except that the lead screamer would sometimes rap his screams.
Next up was Underoath. I had never heard them before tonight, but Megan was telling me that they are a Christian band. That's all good and well, but I couldn't understand a word that they were "singing", because they weren't singing, they were screaming. I don't mind a little bit of screaming, but when every word of every song is screamed, it just doesn't make any sense to me. I actually really liked their music, but the screaming has got to go before would listen to them again. They were the freak show band. They had some different people in the band. The lead singer was this skinny anorexic looking dude, the keyboard guy looked like he was burning his fingers on the keyboard as he was playing (sorry Miguel, I stole that from you). Danny & Miguel said that there was this really short dude also, but I didn't see him, and then the bass player was a giant. Freak show band. I didn't really enjoy them much.
Finally, last up came Thrice. The played a pretty good mixture of songs from their old albums and from the new one. They played awesome, but I think (and this is just my humble opinion), that the new songs sounded awesome, and that the older songs didn't sound quite right (except for 2 of them, which were great). I also felt that all of the musicians were starting slightly off, and the beginning of a few songs were off. They eventually caught up with each other, but it took a minute for me to realize what song they were playing. Miguel doesn't agree with that. He thinks that they did awesome, and so does Danny. I guess maybe you should listen to them considering they are both musicians that play multiple instruments, and I don't play anything. They played just about all of my favorite old songs. After the show was over they came out for an encore. They played 2 more songs. The first was just the lead singer by himself playing an acoustic guitar. It sounded really nice. Then the rest of the band came out for the 2nd song.
After the show was over we had to walk back to the car, which wouldn't have been so bad...if the concert were last week when the weather was in the 70's. It was cold. After we got into the car, it took us like 30 minutes or more to get out of traffic and onto the highway. It took us longer to leave from there, then from the shows in Deep Ellum. Once on the highway, we got stuck in 2 sets of traffic. Sheesh, we couldn't seem to get a break tonight.
After dropping Danny off at his car, Miguel and I decided to go and eat at IHOP. We kind of have this little tradition...after each show that we go to, we eat something. So, the show ended at like 10:50, and we ended up getting to IHOP at 12:30.
Off to bed I go, now that it's 2:00 AM. I need my sleep for the Harry Potter movie tomorrow. Yes folks, we have pre-purchased tickets to the 11:30 showing of Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire.

Caroline Update

So, I actually did call Caroline to wish her a happy birthday. We got to talking for a little while. It turned out really nice. I found out that she is a 3rd grade teacher. I always knew that she would become a teacher. She says that her family is doing well, which is good to hear. I think that I will probably call her again sometime next week to catch up a little more.

Happy Birthday Caroline!

I haven't talked to Caroline in probably about 7 years or so, but today is her 22nd birthday, and I wanted to wish her a happy one. Thrice Concert Tonight

Tonight s the Thrice concert. I am excited about it, but not nearly as excited as I was fr C&C. I like this new album, but I don't think that it is as good as the last few. The show is at the Grenada in Dallas. I'll have to let you all know how it turns out!

What Obslete Skill Am I?

This quiz is the most right-on one yet! This is totally me!

It 's comforting to say that 'practice makes perfect'....
You are 'Gregg shorthand'. Originally designed to
enable people to write faster, it is also very useful
for writing things which one does not want other
people to read, inasmuch as almost no one knows
shorthand any more. You know how important it
is to do things efficiently and on time. You also
value your privacy, and (unlike some people) you
do not pretend to be friends with just everyone;
that would be ridiculous. When you do make friends,
you take them seriously, and faithfully keep what
they confide in you to yourself. Unfortunately, the
work which you do (which is very important, of course)
sometimes keeps you away from social activities, and
you are often lonely. Your problem is that Gregg
shorthand has been obsolete for a long time.

What obsolete skill are you?

Rough Day at Work

It seems as though anytime that I post about work, it has something to do with the fact that I had a really hectic day. Not to your surprise or mine, I had a really hectic day at work today.
The day started off really slow, which was really nice. In fact, it was so slow that I didn't even have my first patient until 8:30. That had never happened to me before. I was convinced that the day was going to be awesome. I even had a student following me around, which makes it nicer, because they can help you out some and do errands for you.
The day was going pretty well until about 12:00. All of a sudden, things got bad. I don't know where everything fell apart, but it did. It wasn't only me who was busy...every single nurse was.
We had some really sick patients in today. Miguel tried to call me like 3 or 4 times, and each time I had to rush him off the phone because I was so busy.
I left work feeling like I never got anything accomplished, got home really tired and just physically drained from all the running around I did today. I just finished taking a nice hot bath to help relax me, and I will be going to bed soon to have wonderful dreams, and wake up tomorrow morning to do it all over again.
I love my job, and I think that you have to, because I don't see how anyone could do this job, and not have a passion for it. Goodnight everyone!

I am so happy that nanny made it here safe today. She said that the flight was a little rough, but overall it wasn't that bad. Nanny checked in 3 pieces, and when she was at baggage claim, she only got 2 pieces back. She was missing her brand new walker. Hopefully the airline wil find it soon, and send it to my mom's house. Coheed & Cambria Were AWESOME!!!

So I've seen Coheed live a few times now (3, I think)...but last night...was just AWESOME! AMAZING! Joel & Valerie met us at the Gypsy Tea Room.
There were 4 bands. First up was MeWithoutYou. The music was okay, but the singer really sucked it up big time, and he was definitely on something.
Next up was Dredg. I kind of liked them. Miguel bought their album a couple of weeks ago, and they are pretty good. The were pretty good live also.
After them came Blood Brothers. They were absolutely awful. They had a few catchy songs, but the 2 singers...if you can even call them singers...screamers actually, were terrible. I swear, they screamed for an hour straight. I didn't understand 1 word that they said. I just wished that the 1 guy would stop shaking his head. He was giving me a headache just watching him. I was soo happy to see them get off stage.
Finally, after waiting forever for Coheeds entrance onto the stage, there they were. They smoked up the place, had a bunch of light effects, and the music started. It was great. The played a bunch of songs from their new album, and quite a few from previous albums. The crowd was so into them. They put on a really good live show! When it was over they left the stage, and everyone was shouting "encore, encore, encore." Coheed entered the stage one last time and not only played another 2 full songs, but then just kind of jammed out for like 10 minutes. AMAZING concert!
When they first came one it was like people made a mad dash to the front, pushing people out of the way, and somehow for a second, I ended up getting pushed pretty hard a couple of times. That part wasn't fun, but I backed up a little bit, and all was well again. I felt kind of bad for the short people, including Valerie. I'm not short, and I had a hard time seeing. It was like the super tall people wanted to stand right in front of us. Even though I couldn't see them the whole time, I could still hear the music, and it was awesome! Have I reached my "awesome" limit yet? How many times can I saw "awesome" in one post? Anyway, Coheed was awesome.
It was so worth the expensive price that we paid for the tickets! It was even worth listening to the Blood Brothers. Wow is all I can say.
By the end of the night, we had been standing for quite a while. Doors opened at 6:00, and the show ended sometime after 11:00, so 5+ hours of standing in one spot was pretty hard on my feet and lower back. Not to mention all the people smoking was making my eyes hurt...but totally worth it!
Coheed & Cambria were AWESOME!

This Weekend

It is Monday, and the weekend is over. We were busy!

Saturday night was Frances' birthday party, and boy did we have fun! I probably had a little too much fun! Sad part was...I had to wake up at 5:00 to go to work on Sunday morning. Sunday was a rough day for me!

Coheed & Cambria Tickets

Well, by the time that Miguel was going to purchase tickets to Coheed & Cambria's concert, all the tickets were sold out. I absolutely love the album, and was really looking forward to going. Miguel did some searching online, mostly at ebay, and found some pretty pricey ones. At first I said no way, b/c I didn't want to spend the money on it, but, I really want to go, so I gave in today and bought some tickets. They are being mailed to us, so I hope that they get here before the concert next Tuesday.
Gypsy Tea Room - here we come! (On Tuesday, that is). Yay! I'm so excited that we are gonna get to go!!!

Hard Day at Work

Well, yesterday was going well at work...I was pretty much caught up on all my patients. In fact, I was helping out other nurses with their patients.
I was just finishing up inserting a foley catheter on a patient for another nurse, when I heard the charge nurse page overhead "Kristen to T1, Sean (the paramedic) to T1, respiratory to T1." I knew my day was gone from there. The only time, and I mean the only time that you hear that combination called overhead is when you have a CPR coming in. As if hearing it wasn't bad enough, I already had a patient in T1. By the time that I got over to T1 (which was about 30 seconds after the page), someone was moving my patient out of T1 to a hallway bed (because we were full), and housekeeping was paged to come and clean the room STAT. House keeping got in there and cleaned up while I was prepping the room for the CPR patient to come in. I had already assembled a team to help out, and the doctor was standing by. We then heard the sirens of the ambulance backing into the bay. We worked the lady for 35 minutes, doing everything that we could to save her, but she had been down too long. She died.
From the time that she came in until all my paperwork was done, and she was transported to the morgue was about a total of 3 hours. Doesn't seem that bad...but I had 4 other patients that didn't get any of my attention for 3 hours. Other nurses helped me out with them (which is normal to do when someone gets caught up in a trauma room), but I never really got caught up after that.
So, my day was going well, until that came in. Needless to say, I was pooped when I got home. Yay for a day off today!

Saturday Night

We just got back from having dinner at Little Havanna on Greenville Avenue in Dallas. It's a cuban restaurant. Food was okay. Nothing to rave about, but we had a good time with Felix, Frances, and Bianca. I really should be going to bed now, since I have to work tomorrow. Good night my peeps!
